Former Badgers competing in CrossFit Games

Julie Ackermann and Chris Exarhos will contend in their aged stomping groups all weekend, hoping to get paid the title of the Fittest on Earth in their age teams.

MADISON, Wis. — 2022 marks Madison’s fifth calendar year web hosting the CrossFit Games, featuring hundreds of athletes from dozens of countries. The online games take location at Alliant Power Arena, and amid people competing are a pair of former Badger athletes and Wisconsin natives.

Julie Ackermann was a member of the Wisconsin diving workforce, and has worked her way back again to her very first CrossFit game titles considering that 2018 and her 3rd over-all.

For Ackermann, coming back again to Madison brings her athletic occupation complete circle.

“I bought to see my diving mentor who I hadn’t noticed in several years, and I just really like the town, I have a specific position in my heart for Madison,” Ackermann explained.

When she’s not training, she’s a whole-time nurse and a CrossFit Mentor, two occupations she claims align for the very same cause.

“I normally tell people today I am still operating on the preventative aspect of health care as a coach, advertising health and fitness, physical fitness, and wellness.”

For Ackermann, CrossFit is a household affair. Her son, Nate, took on CrossFit a short while ago, and proved that the apple does not significantly fall from the tree.

In his first 12 months competing, Nate placed to start with in the world in the On the web Qualifiers and third in the world in The Open up.

Chris Exarhos, a former Badger hockey participant, is confused with emotion competing in the extremely arena he performed on in school.

“Since I was five yrs aged I wanted to be a Badger, and I produced that dream come correct. I finished my job below,” he explained. “This is the initially calendar year I get to contend in the Coliseum, so I just hope to God they don’t play Leap Close to because I may well drop it.”

Each athletes will compete in their aged stomping groups all weekend, making an attempt to gain the title of the Fittest on Earth in their age groups.

The final day of the games on Sunday will air on WISC-Television from midday to 2 p.m.
