I honestly don’t know too many people who aren’t soda drinkers and that’s bad news. A majority of soft drinks contain the deadly sugar substitute known as high fructose corn syrup. The sweetener is also found in most processed foods like peanut butter, pancake syrup and even some prepackaged meats.
This modified sugar is believed to be the number one reason for diseases of the liver, obesity and diabetes. Recent studies have even showed that the addictive sweetener could cause an insulin resistance for those who have diabetes.
That’s pretty scary since diabetes has been a major health concern over the recent years. Of course the USDA isn’t really concerned about the possible effects of the processed sweetener. Maybe it’s because they’re interested in consumers spending as much money as possible on the medical supplies needed in order to fight the disease or maybe they believe it is our responsibilty to make wise choices. Who knows what goes through their minds.
Of course the responsibilty part may be true, but it’s certainly not easy when there are very few healthy food choices that don’t contain the man made sugar. Still, we do have the power to make better food and drink choice by eliminating the processed foods and soda that contains the dangerous substance.
We can choose to drink water, herbal teas and all natural fruit juices. We can choose to eat fresh fruits and vegetables that aren’t prepackaged. Even if we can’t eliminate processed foods completely, we can at least minimize them. Anything is better than nothing at all.
So read labels and avoid foods that contain the words high fructose corn syrup in them. We are in control of what we do to our bodies and there is no better time to take control of our lives than right now.
